People drink tea a lot in Afghanistan…throughout the day…non-stop…They even made a song about it…click here to listen to it…
It is a big part of hospitality in Afghanistan…A guest is always offered some tea and made feel welcome… Sheer Chai (afghan) stands for Tea with milk in Persian/Farsi language. It is originally from Kashmir and is also knows as Kashmiri Chai. Special Kashmiri tea leaves are used to prepare Kashmiri chai that is only found in Kashmir. Alternatively, for Sheer chai (afghan), we may also use any black or green tea leaves. Upon bringing water to a boiling point, we add the tea leaves and let it simmer with milk to develop a nice color. Tea is then flavored with cardamom which gives it a nice taste and aroma. There are many health benefits to using cardamom on a regular basis. Cardamom has antibacterial and therapeutic effects. To add it in a tea, you can scoop out the seeds out of cardamom and crush them gently or grind the seeds in a spice grinder or a coffee grinder.
